Practical Solutions, Built Smarter
At Ten4, good design isn’t about making things complicated—it’s about making them work better.
Our in-house design and engineering team specialises in creating practical, creative solutions tailored to your real-world needs.
Whether you’re starting from a sketch on a napkin or upgrading an existing fleet, we design smarter, build tougher, and make sure every detail serves a purpose.

Creative Solutions for Tricky Problems
Got a challenging project? That’s where we shine. We’re known for designing custom transport and fabrication solutions that others can’t—or won’t—take on. From unique gear racks to specialty bins, from tricky load-outs to integrated tool storage, if it needs thinking outside the box (and building like it matters), you’re in the right place.
From Vision to Completion: Ten4 Builds That Made It Happen
One epic stage. One insane deadline. One shot at glory.
When the 2011 Rugby World Cup organisers needed a world-class stage for the big finale at Eden Park, they came to Ten4 with a bold brief: build an 11m x 7m rugby ball-shaped platform that could be deployed—in the middle of the stadium—in five minutes flat, without leaving a single mark on the sacred turf. Oh, and it had to be towed by a Land Rover. No pressure.

Built for the Load: Heavy-Duty Engineering in Action
When Ian Newey Holdings and China Forestry Group needed serious steel to handle serious logs, they came to us. The mission: build a log bunker that doesn’t flinch under pressure. The result? A beast of a bunker with brains behind the brawn.

Big Ask, Bold Answer: Ten4’s Custom-Built Solution for Vodafone
When Vodafone came to us, they had a bold vision: a trailer that could go from a standard 20m x 2.5m box to a fully-fledged mobile event space, complete with stage, awning, power supply, and serious wow factor. Something that could roll up to an All Blacks game or a Warriors match, push a few buttons, and transform into the centrepiece of the action.

Pump Station Hatch
Faced with recurring issues around safety, security, and compliance in manhole access points, we set out to rethink the humble hatch. The result? A purpose-built design so effective, it’s now recognised as the standard by councils across the South Pacific.

Custom Designs That Fit Your Needs
No two jobs are the same, and neither are our designs. We work closely with you to understand your operation, then create custom solutions that are:
-
Fit-for-purpose
-
Built to spec
-
Compliant with NZTA and industry standards
-
Ready for the real work you do

Engineering That Gets It Right, First Time
Our team handles all aspects of the engineering process:
-
Structural design and load calculations
-
Hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical integration
-
Material selection to match strength, weight, and wear needs
-
NZTA certification preparation and approvals
We design with buildability and longevity in mind, meaning less downtime, fewer modifications, and trucks that just get on with the job.

Heavy-Duty? You Bet.
Challenge accepted.
We engineered what became known as the Vodafone Expandable Trailer—or more affectionately, the Transformer. This wasn’t just a box on wheels. This was an all-in-one, hydraulically-operated, event-ready mobile hub. With the press of a button, the entire 20m side wall lifts up and out. Inside, another stage folds down. Walls clip up to form an exterior awning. Hinged frontage panels swing into place. Access stairs deploy. The whole thing comes alive like something out of a movie.
It took us 12 months of design, fabrication, and fit-out to bring it to life. We handled everything in-house, from hydraulic systems to structural engineering to the full interior fit-out. There’s a hydraulic tail lift at the rear for gear loading, a 33kVA generator powerful enough to light up a small town, and a pneumatically operated cell tower that rises from the roof. It’s a beautiful marriage of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, and good old Kiwi engineering.
Weight distribution was a massive part of the puzzle. We had to make sure it met all axle group tolerances, didn’t overload the tow ball, and remained road-legal across the board. Every component had a place and a purpose, including underfloor storage and careful balancing of all major systems.
The result? A trailer that’s seen it all—from snowy stints on the Cardrona ski fields (no leaks, no dramas), to powering city blocks during outages, to training future truck drivers when it was later converted into mobile classrooms. It’s a transformer, a power hub, a performance space, and a classroom all rolled into one.
Problem: big idea, tight tolerances, complex systems.
Solution: Ten4 engineering. Fit for purpose, built for the longhaul.

The Challenge:
-
Shape: Rugby ball. (Yes, really.)
-
Timeframe: 5 minutes from final whistle to trophy lift.
-
Location: Centre field at Eden Park, with tight tunnel clearances.
-
Requirements: No turf damage. Max height 500mm. Land Rover tow-compatible.
The Solution: We engineered a stage trailer like no other. At first glance? A sleek, road-ready trailer. But with a push of a button? It unfolded into a full-sized oval stage worthy of rugby royalty.
Hydraulic wings. Retractable wheels. Galvanised doors. Custom legs that lifted and dropped the whole rig smoothly into place. It cruised in behind a Land Rover, slid into the centre field, then deployed in just three minutes. Dead set.
No broken turf. No drama. Just Kiwi ingenuity at its finest.
The Result: Under the lights at Eden Park, our stage rolled out and transformed in front of a roaring crowd. Within minutes, it became the centrepiece of a historic moment—the trophy lift. We even got to shake hands with the All Blacks. Not a bad day’s work.
At Ten4, we build more than trailers. We build legends.
Engineered for the Longhaul. Designed for the spotlight.
